We hope your nonprofit will be part of this program acknowledging the contributions of key volunteers who give so much to our community.
Where do funds raised through the Exceptional Women of Ouray County go?
The money raised through this program goes to college scholarships for Ridgway High School graduates. In the past ten years, Fortuna Tierra Club has given more than $100,000 to help local kids with college expense.
Will this take a lot of time and effort?
Your organization’s participation will not require much of your time, it will give you an opportunity to recognize your top volunteers, and your nonprofit’s involvement does not have to cost anything.
What does it cost for the nonprofit to participate in the Exceptional Women of Ouray County program?
There is no mandatory cost. The two possible costs are optional. Some nonprofits may choose to
1) send one or more officers to the reception so the organization leadership can celebrate their Exceptional Woman at the recognition event.
2) Pay for your recipient to enjoy a thank-you massage ($80) or some other special gift.
Are there restrictions on the location of the nonprofit or the award recipient?
To qualify, the nonprofit organization simply needs to operate in Ouray County. The exceptional woman can be from anywhere. Any relevant nonprofit that has volunteers, gives funds to people and organizations in Ouray County or is otherwise active in the county is welcome to participate.
Does the nonprofit have to participate every year?
No. The frequency of your participation in our annual program is up to you. You can decide whether that is every year, the first year only or periodically when you have someone to recognize.
What is expected of the nonprofits that participate in the Exceptional Women of Ouray County program?
The nonprofit agrees to
1) Email the reception invitation, which Fortuna Tierra Club will provide, initially and then again as a reminder to
the nonprofit’s constituents - members, board of directors or trustees, and other target audiences.
2) Email the invitation to a list of names and email addresses, which the nonprofit asks its recipient to provide, of the nominee’s friends, family, past and current work colleagues, business associates and other out-of-towners and locals she wishes to invite.
The emailed invitation asks the people receiving the email to attend the celebratory reception in October honoring the 2024 class of Exceptional Women.
